Jane Mackay will be teaching tips to save yourself money at both the developmental editing and copyediting stages of bringing your manuscript to publication as the guest speaker for the California Writers Club Tri-Valley Branch on Saturday, November 15 at 2:00 p.m.

Jane Mackay has been helping writers polish their novels, short stories, memoirs, and nonfiction books since 2007, when she launched herself as a freelancer with Janemac.net and also co-founded a small independent press, Medusa’s Muse Press, for which she is copyeditor. Impelled by a desire to help people express themselves clearly and put forth their best writing, she finds working directly with authors to be really rewarding, especially as she sees their writing improve over time.

In addition to this work, Jane has a strong niche in editing academic papers, with a specialty in authors for whom English is not their native language. In this line, she is copy editor for two academic journals based in Korea, the International Review of Public Administration and Korean Social Science Journal.

As a writer, Jane has co-authored two books: a novel based on a true story that is in the hands of an entertainment attorney/agent who is shopping it around publishers and movie studios, and a middle grade action-adventure-fantasy novel that was self-published by her co-author. She has also had various short nonfiction pieces published.

Jane earned her Bachelor of Arts in German Language & Literature from University of Auckland, New Zealand, and twenty-five years later went back to school to earn a Master of Arts in Journalism at Northeastern University, Boston. She is a member of the Bay Area Editors’ Forum. She can be found online at Facebook and Twitter (@jane_mackay). Full information about her editing services is available at Janemac.net.
