Elaine Drew has worked as a writer and illustrator for longer than she’s willing to admit. She became fascinated with early medieval life while living in England. “Living in the area gave me the opportunity to research that time and place. My children went to the local village school, and Saxon remains were found under their playground. The nearby town of Winchester had been home to ninth-century kings.”
Her most recent illustrated book, Damsel’s Dilemma, tells the story of a maiden who doesn’t want to marry. She prefers the dragon guarding her tower to the prince who tries to rescue her. In A Knight’s Bad Day, a brash young knight fails a challenge but succeeds at something more important.
Nun Too Clever is a mystery centered on the unexpected death of a nun. If you’ve read any fairy tales, you may have wondered what life would be like—ten years on—for the lucky girl who married the prince. Nun Too Clever answers that question.
Drew is currently writing a romantasy that upends the Cinderella tale. This Cinderella is a sassy and rebellious teenager who hatches a scheme to infiltrate the palace. She learns more than she bargained for about life in a royal court.
In addition to her novels, Elaine Drew has published humorous pieces and poetry. She illustrated Tales in the Night Sky, a mythical introduction to stargazing. Her work is included in the college textbook The Adobe Illustrator CS6 Wow! Book. She wrote and illustrated the critically acclaimed blog The Daily Dreamer under the pseudonym Carla Young. Her egg tempera and gold leaf paintings explore mythical and dream material. Drew has also written corporate publications for General Electric and manuals for computer companies, including IBM. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
